El más bombardero, el más rápido y el más pegador. / The one who bombs the ball, the fastest and the bravest one

Como ya sabéis, el torneo de Indian Wells se disputa en dos semanas y para ver las rondas finales habrá que esperar un poquito. Por ello, hoy aprovecharé este post para hablar de lo ocurrido en los torneos ATP de segunda o tercera división donde hay deportistas como la copa de un pino. A éstos los quiero cuidar mucho en este blog, me merecen todo el respeto. Además, es en estos torneos donde se foguean los jugadores de primera.

Hoy hablaré de tres jugadores que trabajan o han trabajado conmigo. Primero quiero felicitar a los tres por los resultados del pasado fin de semana. A Guillermo Alcaide por su victoria en individuales del future de Lagos, Portugal; a Nacho Coll por la victoria en dobles del future de Sabadell, España; y a Sergio Gutierrez ``Guti´´ por pasar la previa de momento del challenger de Marrakech, Marruecos.

A la gente que les sigue, les conoce y/o han competido con ellos no les va a extrañar lo que voy a afirmar porque seguro que lo habrán comprobado. Estamos hablando de un jugador con uno de los mejores saques, uno de los más rápidos y uno que está entre los que más queman la bola.

Estuve viajando con Alcaide algunas semanas durante la temporada de 2007. Recuerdo que la primera semana que trabajamos juntos fue en Melilla. Nuestro estreno fue inmejorable: ganó su primer future y, además, no perdió ni un set. Le metimos un gol a Pere Riba ya que forzamos la máquina para que no cancelasen la final, programada para el sábado, a pesar de que ese día diluviaba. Finalmente conseguimos que la final se disputase en una pista cubierta, que era rapidísima, y en la que Guille no dio ninguna opción con su saque.

La verdad es que no lo hicimos con ninguna intención. El problema era que ya teníamos los billetes de avión emitidos y yo, personalmente, la posibilidad de asistir a la gran final entre Rafa y Federer en Montecarlo. Al final todo salió rodado.

Guille trabaja actualmente en la federación de Madrid y les puedo asegurar que el saque que tiene puede llegar a decir mucho en este mundo.

¡Enhorabuena por Portugal! Espero que este año en el Club de Lagos te hayan permitido ver el partido de tu Atlético de Madrid.

Con Nacho Coll hemos trabajado muchos años y, valga la redundancia, hemos trabajado muchísimo. Seguro que en otro post o en más de uno les comentaré anécdotas divertidas y experiencias irrepetibles que hemos vivido juntos, que no son pocas.

Actualmente trabaja en el Real Club Tenis Barcelona. Este año ya lleva tres futures de dobles ganados: el de esta semana junto a Gerad Granollers y los otros dos junto a Jose A. Sanchez de Luna.

Nunca he visto un jugador tan rápido. Muchas veces me he divertido al ver la cara de asombro del rival o del público cuando Nacho llegaba a alguna bola imposible. Más de uno de sus adversarios ha maldecido con algún comentario gracioso su velocidad. Recuerdo que Carlos Moyà me comentó en un entreno que cuando Nacho coge la iniciativa cambiando de dirección y las bolas entran, da igual quién esté enfrente porque, gracias a su velocidad, siempre está colocado para la siguiente y seguir cambiando.

Enhorabuena Nacho y Gerard que siga la racha esta semana en Badalona y en el derbi de individuales que gane el mejor.

Con “Guti” colaboro desde hace muy poco pero los dos amamos el tenis y ya hace tiempo que hablamos y que le conozco. Precisamente le vi jugar por primera vez en el 2005. Era el partido de cuartos de final del Campeonato de España júnior y jugaba contra Nacho Coll, que quedó finalista. Recuerdo que me sorprendió la velocidad de sus tiros, principalmente la derecha. La verdad es que tenísticamente hablando quema la pelota como pocos lo hacen.

Trabaja con su hermano Alfonso y con su primo y la primera semana de Marzo coincidimos en Mallorca entrenando con Rafa en la pista dura cubierta de Manacor. Fue un placer trabajar con él toda la semana ya que siempre está dispuesto a darlo todo y a intentar llevar a la práctica cualquier consejo que se le proporcione.

Tranquilidad “Guti”. Y suerte en el cuadro final contra Kavcic (101 ATP).

Para acabar, no quiero olvidarme de la victoria de Roberto Bautista en el future de Tipton, Gran Bretaña, ni de agradecerle a él y a su entrenador, Jorge Belles, su visita a Mallorca a finales de Febrero para entrenar unos días con Rafa.

You know that Indian’s Wells tournament is played in two weeks and if you want to see the final rounds you’ll have to wait a bit. So, I’m going to use this post today to talk about the things that happened in second or third division of ATP tournaments where there are athletes like real stars. I want to take care of this group of athletes in this blog, because they deserve respect. Moreover, is in this tournament where first players achieved experience.
Today I’m going to talk about three players who work or have worked with me. First of all, I want to congratulate them for the results of last weekend. To Guillermo Alcaide for his individual victory in Lagos and Portugal; to Nacho Coll for the double victory in Sabadell (Spain) and to Sergio Gutierrez called “Guti” for passing the previous challenger in Marrakech (Morocco).
People who follow them, know them and have played with them will not be surprised for what I’m going to say, because I’m sure that they have realized it. We’re talking about a player with one of the best services, one of the fastest and one that is among the players who burns the ball.
I was travelling some weeks with Alcaide during the season 2007. I remember the first week that we worked together was in Melilla (autonomous city of Spain). We started on the right foot: he won his first future and he didn’t lose any set. We scored a goal to Pere Riba, because we forced the machine so that the final would not be cancelled. It was planned for the Saturday, although that day poured with rain. Finally we managed to play the final in an indoor court, which was fastest, and in which Guille didn’t give no option in his service.
The truth is that it wasn’t deliberate. The problem was that we had issued flight tickets and I, personally, I had the chance to attend to the Grand Final Slam between Rafa and Federer in Monte Carlo (Monaco). At the end everything was good.
Guille is working on the Madrid Federation and I have to assure you that the service that he has can arrive to say everything in this world.
Congratulations for your match in Portugal! I hope that this year your Club let you watch the football match of your favourite team, Atlético de Madrid.

We worked a lot of years with Nacho Coll and we worked hard. I’m sure that in other post I’ll explain the amusing stories and unrepeatable experiences lived with him that are not few.
He’s working in Real Club de Tenis Barcelona. He has already won three double futures this year: one of this week with Gerard Granollers and the other ones with José A. Sánchez de Luna.
I’ve never seen a player as fast as him. I’ve enjoyed a lot of times when I saw the amazed face of the rival or the public when Nacho arrived to touch an impossible ball. More than one of his rivals cursed his speed with some funny comments. I remember that Carlos Moyà explained me in a training session that when Nacho took the initiative of changing the direction and the balls go inside, it doesn’t matter who’s in the front, because due to his speed, he’s always prepared for the next ball and how to change it.

I have worked recently with “Guti”, both of us love tennis and its months that I’ve talked to him and met. I’ve just saw him play for the first time in 2005. It was the quarter finals match of the Junior Championship of Spain and he played against Nacho Coll who was the finalist. I remember that I was surprised for the speed of his shots, mainly on the right hand. So, I have to say, in “tennis words”, that he burns the ball like a few can do it.
He works with his brother Alfonso and his cousin. The first week of March, we met in Mallorca, when I was training with Rafa, in the indoor court of Manacor. It was a pleasure working with him all the week, because he’s always ready to give everything and he tries to put into practice any advice that people give to him.

Finally, I don’t want to forget Roberto’s Bautista victory in the future of Tipton (England). And I also want to thank him and his couch, Jorge Belles, for their visit at the end of February in Mallorca, because they were training some days with Rafa.
