El tenis debe dejar de ser un deporte amateur / Tennis is not an amateur sport

Vegetación, caminos de tierra, el sonido del agua y la luz del Sol iluminando un paisaje espectacular. Los alrededores del afluente ``Sesia´´, que bordea la ciudad de Vercelli (Italia) han sido esta semana un recorrido perfecto para practicar el running.

Esos minutos de deporte los he dedicado a reflexionar como habitualmente sobre los partidos jugados. En este caso por el jugador Sergio Gutierrez, prestando especial atención al partido que el Holandés Thomas Scholler nos venció. La verdad es que en el primer set nos consolamos demasiado, hasta el punto de perder el control d con excusas externas como la situación del Sol, que no sirven para nada. Esto se debe mejorar para otros partidos.

Pero también es cierto que Scholler, joven jugador también del año 89, como Sergio “Guty”, tiene un físico envidiable de más de metro noventa, con un gran servicio y un gran resto que, junto a sus golpes agresivos de ataque, le convierten en un jugador con gran potencial; me fascinó bastante. Prueba de su excelente estado de forma es que ha ganado el torneo sin ceder ni un solo set y, el set más apurado que ha disputado fue el segundo del partido contra Sergio, que lo ganó en el tie break (Sergio lo dio todo).

También, durante las sesiones de running, analicé la situación de torneos futures y challengers ATP en España en comparación con Italia y, la verdad, señores directivos de la Real Federación Española de Tenis, hay mucho que decir. De los 42 futures que hay este año en España sólo 14 son de 15.000 (y en los primeros 5 meses ninguno) y el resto de 10.000. No hay ninguno con hospitalidad y sólo disponemos de 5 challengers ATP (en Italia hay unos 18). Si queremos que España siga siendo la potencia mundial en número de jugadores en las primeras posiciones ATP, debemos mejorar la calidad de los futures; debemos invertir el orden, mayoritariamente deben ser de 15.000; facilitar, ayudar y explicar a los organizadores las ventajas que tiene organizar los futures con hospitalidad y el aumento de calidad que supone para el evento. Al menos los meses de verano deberíamos tener un calendario con un circuito repleto de challengers.

Debemos ser la potencia Mundial en este tipo de eventos, lo disponemos todo: clima, infraestructura (centros de tenis y hoteles), vivimos del turismo, etc., hay que arrimar esfuerzos, crear ilusión, implicar más a las instituciones etc., hay trabajo que hacer.

Jugadores, la Federación Internacional de Tenis (ITF), responsable de los futures, se esta riendo de vosotros, ya no hablemos de los coaches, que ni existimos en este tipo de eventos y desgraciadamente ni en una organización modélica como la ATP. La ITF Aumenta los puntos ATP pero no aumentan los premios, el supervisor del torneo cobra más que el campeón del torneo. Desde hace años se cobra una licencia llamada IPIN, hecha para crear una web para poder inscribirse online. La web hace años que está creada y no mejora porque sigue sin estar 100% traducida en varios idiomas, sobre todo el reglamento. Siguen ingresando la cuota imprescindible para poder jugar, aunque sea una previa por wc, y estos ingresos no se trasmiten en mejoras para los jugadores ni en ventajas para los organizadores para fortalecer los torneos. Por favor, ya es hora de poner las cosas en su sitio.

En cuanto a la ATP, sigo sin concebir como a un jugador, ir a jugar la previa de un Garnd Slam, como el de Australia en el caso de un Europeo, le cueste dinero aún yendo solo. Algo está fallando y nadie pone solución. Mientras tanto el tenis seguirá siendo un deporte amateur, únicamente son profesionales los 100 primeros del mundo. ¡¡¡Esta situación debe cambiar ya!!!

Les dejo, que gracias a Toni Nadal y Rafael Nadal me encuentro este fin de semana en Montecarlo. Hoy si el tiempo lo permite hay que disfrutar de la final española en este “descafeinado” Montecarlo, por la ausencia de los jugadores top como Federer, Del Potro, Davydenko, roddick, Soderling, etc., aunque sí con todos los terricolas. En Roland Garros veremos si realmente estos ausentes han devaluado el nivel en Montecarlo.

En el siguiente Post les cuento mi experiencia en esta cuarta final que vivo en directo en Montecarlo y sobre los resultados de esta semana.

Vegetation, ground roads, the sound of water and the sunlight were illuminating a spectacular landscape. Sesia’s affluent surroundings, which go round the city of Vercelli (Italy), have been a perfect trip to practice running this week.

I have devoted these minutes of sport for thinking about the games played. In this case, about the player Sergio Gutierrez, who played with the Dutchman Thomas Scholler and he beat us. The truth is that in the first set, we took a lot of comfort and we lost the control with excuses such as the situation of the sun that are useless. This should be improved for other matches.

It is also true that Scholler, young player of the year 89, also as Sergio "Augie", has an enviable physique. He’s more than six feet, with a great service and with a good return. So, with his aggressive attack strokes, it turns into a player with great potential and I was quite fascinated. Proof of its top form is that he has won the tournament without loaning a single set and the set more difficult that he have played was the second match against Sergio, who won the tie break (Sergio does his best).

Also, during the running sessions, I analyzed the situation of futures and challengers ATP tournament in Spain and I have compared with Italy. Honestly, there is a lot to comment, directors of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation. There are 42 futures this year in Spain: only 14 are the sort of 15,000 (and there is nothing in the first five months) and the rest are the sort of 10,000. Any offer you the hotel and we only have 5 challengers ATP (there are 18 in Italy). If we want that Spain continue to be the world power in number of players at the top ATP, we must improve the quality of the futures; we must invest the order (it has to be about 15,000); we have to facilitate, help and explain to the organizers about the advantage that has organizing futures with offer you hotel and we have to increase the quality that means to the event. At least summer months should have a calendar with a full circuit of challengers.

We must be the world power in this type of events, because we have everything: climate, infrastructure (tennis centers and hotels), we live from tourism, etc. We have to obtain effort, to create illusion, to involve more institutions etc. So, there is work to do.

Players! The International Tennis Federation (ITF) and head of futures are laughing at you. And we don’t mention the coaches (we don’t exist in this type of event) and unfortunately neither in a model organization as the ATP. The ITF increases ATP points, but the prizes don’t increase and the tournament supervisor earns more than the champion of the tournament. For years, it is charged a license called IPIN made to create a website for register online. It has created for years the website and there is any improvement, because is not 100% translated in different languages, especially the regulation. The essential membership fees are still coming in to be able to play; even it is a previous for WC. These membership fees are not transmitted in upgrades to the players or benefits the organizers for improve the tournaments. Please, it's time to change all this.

Talking about ATP, I’m still not as a player, I can’t play the previous one Grand Slam, as Australia in the case of a European, and it costs money even if you go alone. Something goes wrong and no one find a solution. So, nowadays tennis is an amateur sport and only they become professionals the first 100 of the world. So, this situation must change now!

Changing about the subject, I’m in Montecarlo this weekend thanks to Toni Nadal and Rafael Nadal. Today, if time allows us, we have to enjoy the Spanish final in this "decaffeinated" in Montecarlo, because there is the absence of the best players like Federer, Del Potro, Davydenko, Roddick, Soderling, etc, but there are the earthlings. So, we are going to see at Roland Garros if those absent players have devalued the level in Montecarlo.
