Semana atípica pero rica / Atypical week but also rich

Después de años viajando y entrenando sin parar por Futures y Challengers puedo decir que la semana que hemos pasado ha sido atípica o distinta para mí.

Organicé y me reciclé asistiendo al curso de formación de nivel 4 (Sistema Básico de dirección) del Registro Profesional de Tenis (RPT) impartido por Luis Mediero. El evento tuvo lugar en la Office/Shop de Punt tennis y, más tarde, contrasté la situación del tenis en Barcelona cenando con “Monty” el fundador y promotor del mejor circuito privado de tenis en Barcelona: el Monty Tour. También tuve la oportunidad de visitar mi nueva casa en Madrid: la Ciudad de La Raqueta. Se trata de nuevo club deportivo con esencia futurista y con un modelo de gestión e infraestructura ejemplar que se adapta perfectamente a las nuevas exigencias. Allí pude compartir unas horas de interesante tertulia de tenis con Emilio Sánchez Vicario y Javier Marti “Koki’’, promotores del moderno club.

Por otra parte, me lo he pasado genial este fin de semana en el ITF junior de la ciudad de Benicarló. Disfrutando de las promesas del tenis y del trato que este club dispensa a todos su visitantes; desde su director, Ginés, hasta los hermanos del tenis valenciano Vicente-Fibla y Pedro, el cocinero del restaurante.

La primera vez que hice el curso del Nivel 4 del RPT fue en Madrid en el año 1994, me lo impartieron Luis Mediero y “Koki” Martí. Me quedé alucinado con las ideas que tenían en sus cerebros y lo que hoy día es una realidad, el RPT y La Ciudad de la raqueta, no son fruto de la casualidad, sino de la brillantez de estas personas.

Durante este mes y medio que no he viajado para reflexionar sobre cómo mejorar mi proyecto. Decidí también que era un buen momento para organizar, por primera vez en baleares, una promoción del nivel 4 RPT y facilitar así a las personas interesadas a que conocieran su contenido. Ahora más que nunca, cuando la época de crisis nos obliga a formarnos y a darle vueltas al coco para salir de ella cuanto antes. Y así fue, el resultado a medio plazo notaremos.

Hacía 8 años que no coincidía con “Monty”. Fue un placer para mí convocarle a una cena al saber que se encontraba en Mallorca unos días. Sentí una gran satisfacción un día trabajando en la LTA en Londres, cuando uno de los entrenadores más curran-tes de allí, Andrew (entrenador de dos promesas inglesas de 16 años), me pidió consejo antes de llevarse a sus jugadores a competir en el circuito Monty tour. Fue un honor para mí afirmarle que era muy positivo.

Con “Monty” analizamos la situación del tenis nacional con su perspectiva y experiencia como organizador del Monty tour desde hace más de diez años, y debo admitir que me preocupó bastante su valoración: “Toni, la gente esta dejando el tenis cada vez más joven”.

El intercambió de opiniones que mantuve con Emilio Sanchez durante más de dos horas, me supuso una inyección de energía para seguir luchando y fortalecer el funcionamiento del grupo de competición Passion Talent Group, ya que, actualmente los grupos de competición casi han desparecido y son necesarios dentro de la escala del alto rendimiento en nuestro deporte y más con el futuro que se le avecina al tenis de nuestro país. Gracias Emilio por una vez más demostrarme tu pasión por el tenis aconsejandome desinteresada-mente con tu experiencia como jugador, entrenador, gestor, comentarista, capitán, etc…

Mi visita corta pero agradable en el ITF de Benicarlo me confirmó una vez más la fortuna que tenemos en España y más en las zonas de levante, Cataluña, Canarias, Madrid,... donde hay gente altruista que dan a este país una valiosa cadena de torneos y circuitos juveniles, ATP y WTA, el Nike, Montytour, Marca, ITF júnior, Futures, Challengers y Grand Prix. Esperemos que permanezcan siempre.

En Benicarló me encontré con mis paisanos de las Islas Baleares, muy bien dirigidos por uno de mis exjugadores en mi etapa en la Escuela Balear: Pedro Villar. De él guardo muy buen recuerdo y me gustó mucho recordar acontecimientos, intercambiar opiniones y observar cómo trabajaba. El domingo sus jugadores consiguieron un hat-trick, tres victorias de tres partidos. La ibicenca Carla Tur, el mallorquín Xesc Manresa y el menorquín Sergio Martos ganaron sus respectivos partidos. Cuando le llamé para felicitarle, le pregunté dónde estaba y me respondió que estaba entrenando con sus jugadores.

Le dije que disfrutara del día, que no es fácil repetir un tres de tres, él respondió ``lo disfruto donde más lo puedo hacer en la pista, entrenando´´.

Antes de despedirme hasta el siguiente Post, felicitar a la promesa española Pablo Carreño por el gran primer trimestre del año. Esta semana ha ganado grandes partidos y se ha plantado en la final donde cedió con el experimentado Dani Muñoz. Este año apenas he podido seguir sus partidos aunque algunos de los Formers Players de Passion Talent Group me han dicho que va a ser la revelación. Felicidades y suerte.

En esta primera semana en el Master 1.000 de Miami pensaba que no habría sorpresas ni despistes pero el vigente campeón, el Principe Andy Murray, ha caído eliminado por Fish 6/4 6/4. Ya me adelantó Emilio que este torneo era incomodo para los favoritos. Ahora, a disfrutar esta semana de buen tenis y de gran espectáculo que nos espera.

After years of travelling and training without a break for Futures and Challengers, I can say that we’ve spent an atypical week or different for me.

I organised and attended a training course of level 4 (Basic Direction System) by the Tennis Professional Register given by Luis Mediero. The event was held at the Office/Shop of Punt tennis and, later, I’ve contrasted with the tennis situation in Barcelona with “Monty”, founder and promoter of MountyTour: the best private tennis circuit in Barcelona while were having a dinner. I also had the chance to visit my new home in Madrid: the city of the Racket. It is another sports club with futuristic essence and with a model of exemplary management and infrastructure perfectly adapted to the new requirements. So there, I could share a few hours of sitting around talking about tennis with Emilio Sánchez Vicario and Javier Martí “Koki”, one of the promoters of the modern club.

In the other hand, I had spent a great weekend in the junior ITF in Benicarló (Spain). I had enjoyed the up-and-coming talents and the treatment that this club gives to all its visitors; from the principal, called Ginés, to the tennis brothers of Valencia Vicente-Fibla and Pedro, the chef of the restaurant.

The first time I made the course of Level 4 of the RPT was in Madrid in 1994. It was taught by Luis Mediero and “Koki” Martí. I was stunned with the ideas that they had in their brains and what it is a reality nowadays, the RPT and the City of the Racket are not fruits of coincidence, but the brilliance of these people.

I decided (and I don’t regret at all) that during this month and a half I wouldn’t travel for thinking about how to improve my project. Also, I decided that it was a good moment to organize, for the first time in Balearic Islands, a special edition of level 4 RPT and, with this fact, facilitate those interested to know its contents. Now more than ever, with this crisis period, we have to bring up and how to solve it. And we will notice the result in the medium term.

I haven’t met with “Monty” since eight years ago. It was a pleasure for me to invite him to have dinner, because I knew that he was in Mallorca for a few days. I felt a great satisfaction one day when I was working in the LTA in London, when one of the hardworking coaches, Andrew (coach of two English up-and-coming talents girls of 16 years old), asked me for advice before taking his players to compete on the circuit “Montytour”. It was an honour for me when I asserted him that it was very positive.

With “Monty”, we analyze the situation of the national tennis with his vision and his experience as Montytour organizer for over ten years. I have to admit that I was quite worried about his evaluation, because he said me “Toni, people are leaving this sport when they’re younger”.

The exchange of opinions that I’ve maintained with Emilio Sánchez during more than two hours was an energy injection for fighting again to strengthen how it works a competitive group, because nowadays it has almost disappeared and we need it in the high performance level in our sport. Even with the future that tennis will have in our country. Thank you Emilio for show me your passion for tennis and for advising me selflessly with your experience as a player, coach, manager, commentator, captain, etc.

My short visit, but pleasant in the ITF Benicarló, confirmed me that one more time the fortune that we have in Spain and more in the areas of Catalonia, the Canary Islands, Madrid… where they have altruist people that give to this country a valuable chain of tournaments and junior circuits, ATP and WTA, Nike, Montytour, Marca, junior ITF, Futures, Challengers and Grand Prix. We hope that they remain forever.

I met my Balearic Islands countrymen in Benicarló. They were well led by one of my explayers in my time in the Balearic School: Pedro Villar. I have good memories of him and I like to remember events, exchange opinions and observe how to work. That Sunday, their players got a hat-trick, three victories from three matches. Carla Tur from Ibiza, Xesc Manresa from Mallorca and Sergio Martos from Menorca won their respective matches. When I called to congratulate him, I asked him where he was and he said me that he was training with his players. I said him to enjoy the day, because it’s not easy to repeat a three of three, and he answered me “I enjoyed it when I’m training”.

Before finishing with this post, I want to congratulate the up-and-coming Spanish talent, Pablo Carreño, for the great first quarter of the year. This week has won important matches and he have quitted in the final which ceded with the experienced Dani Muñoz. I could barely follow his matches although some of the Passion Talent Group Formers Players said me that he will be the revelation. Congratulations and good luck.

In this first week at the Miami Masters 1000, I thought that there would be no surprises or absentmindedness, but the current champion, Andy Murray, have defeated by Fish 6/4 6/4. Emilio had already said me that this tournament was uncomfortable for the favourites. So, this week, we have to enjoy this good tennis and this unexpected show.
