Marbella, capital del tenis. / Marbella, tennis capital.

Esta semana Marbella ha sido la Capital del tenis en España, se ha disputado el WTA Andalucía Tenis Experience, en las magníficas instalaciones del Club/Hotel Puente Romano. Felicidades Flavia Pennetta! Coincidiendo con el torneo se han organizado actividades paralelas, entre ellas, el Simposium organizado por el Registro Profesional de Tenis RPT, dónde se trató la situación actual del tenis femenino español.

Estuve cinco días en Marbella, lunes y martes, gracias a la invitación de Luis Mediero, presidente/fundador del RPT, asistí a las interesantes Charlas del Simposium, todas ellas fueron muy provechosas. Sus ponentes: Diego Avelino, Stacey Allaster, Carmen Perea, Xavi Budo, Sebastián Tobaruela, David Tosas, David Serraima, Conchita Martínez, Ricardo Sánchez , Eva Borrás y Joan Ribas expusieron sus puntos de vista, algunos de ellos con una exposición muy elaborada y otros profundizando sin tabúes en sus experiencias. Como es el caso de la Campeona de Wimbledon, Conchita Martínez, que no dudó en reconocer que la Federación Española en algunas etapas de su formación le dió la espalda únicamente por decidir salirse de su estructura de entrenamiento al considerar ella y su familia que debían buscar algo más.

Una vez más, creo que la Federación Española debería aportar más a este tipo de encuentros y a otros muchos aspectos, en otros post os iré comentando. La aparición de Jordi Arrese, Director deportivo actual de la Federación Española, al final de las últimas charlas, sabe a poco. Aunque, ojalá sea un buen punto de partida. Felicitar al Director deportivo de la Federación Andaluza, Sebastián Tobaruela, primero por la labor que está desarrollando siempre, de unir y aglutinar todo lo que pueda aportar beneficios al tenis Andaluz, y segundo, que no sólo permaneciese en el simposio en su exposición, sino que en casi todas las charlas y además de forma activa.

Por otro lado, me gustó mucho la pregunta que le realizó Luis Mediero a Stacey Allaster de Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, sobre como surgió la idea y cuál era su valoración sobre la decisión de la WTA de reconocer y dar entrada a los Coaches en la pista durante los partidos. Sin ninguna duda, creo que la ATP debería dar ejemplo en este punto y en otros a la WTA. Próximamente, dedicaré un post a los cambios que, en mi opinión, deberían realizar la ATP y la ITF, sobretodo desde la perspectiva de los tenistas situados por detrás de los 150 ATP, que desgraciadamente, son los abandonados de todo este tinglado.

Al terminar las conferencias recogí a Sergio Gutiérrez (261 ATP), jugador Active Player Passion Talent Group (second stage), que venía de jugar la previa del ATP de Casablanca con su hermano Adolfo Gutiérrez, entrenador y máximo responsable deportivo de la carrera de Sergio. En ésta ocasión, perdió en segunda de previa 7/6 1/6 4/6, contra el croata Antonio Veic, después de vencer en primera al experimentado "Beto" Martín, también en tres igualados sets. Nos quedamos trabajando junto con Pablo Martín en Marbella hasta el viernes por la mañana en las instalaciones del Club de Tenis el Casco, sede de Planificaciones Sports Management, gracias al acuerdo que Passion Talent Group mantiene con ellos y que beneficia a los deportistas de ambas estructuras. De allí salimos para Madrid, desde donde Sergio y yo volamos hacia Milán para desplazarnos a Vercelli, donde esta semana Sergio participa en un Future de 15.000 con hospitalidad.

Con este torneo que vamos a iniciar el martes pongo fin a mi intervalo de dos meses (el último fue la última semana de enero en el ATP de Zagreb con James Ward) de estar ausente en competición como Coach en activo. Dos meses de reflexión, de enriquecedor trabajo y cultivo a diario, siempre con la ilusión de que con el tiempo de sus frutos llenos de satisfacciones deportivas. En breve les contaré las sensaciones de este torneo.

This week Marbella has been the capital of tennis in Spain. The WTA Andalucia Tennis Experience took place in the incredible facilities of the Club/Hotel Puente Romano, congratulations Flavia Pennetta! At the same time of the tournament some activities have been organized, in between the the “Simposium” organized by the Registro Profesional del Tenis RPT, where they went over the situation of female tennis in Spain.

I have been five days in Marbella, Monday and Tuesday thanks to the invitation of Luis Mediero, that is the president/founder of RPT. I atended the interesting speeches of the “Simposium”, all of them where very usefull. The speakers where Diego Avelino, Stacey Allaster, Carmen Perea, Xavi Budo, Sebastian Tobaruela, David Tosas, David Serraima, Conchita Martínez, Ricardo Sánchez , Eva Borrás and Joan Ribas exposed their points of view, some of them went deeper in the topic and others talked about their experience like the Wimbledon Champion Conchita Martinez. She did not doubt in recognizing that the Spanish Federation turned their back on them in some stages of her formation just becasue she decided to exit its training estructure becasue she and her family considered they needed to look for something else.

Once again I think that the Spanish Federation should help more to this meetings and in much other aspects, in other posts I will keep talking about that. The appearance of Jordi Arrese, Head Director of Sports in the Spanish Federation, at the end of the last speeches felt like it was not enough, but I hope it is a good start. I want to say congratulations to the Head director of Sports of the Andalucia Feeration, Sebastian Tobaruela, first of all because of his good work that he is always doing at the time of getting together everything that can beneficiate tennis in Andalucia, and in second place because he not only stayed all the way through the “Simposium”, he also stayed and was active through all its speeches.

In the other hand, I liked a lot the question that Luis Mediero asked to Stacey Allaster (Sony Ericsson WTA Tour), about how did it come out the idea and what were her thoughts about the decisión of the WTA of recognizing and letting coaches get into the court during maches. Without a doubt, I think that the ATP should look at the WTA in this aspect and in some others. Soon i am going to do a post also about the changes that the ATP and ITF should do from th epoint of view of the tennis players ranked 150 and above in the ATP, that unfortunately they are the forgotten ones in all this problem.

At the end of the conference i picked up Sergio Gutierrez (261 ATP) active player Passion Talent Group, (second stage) that came from the qualy of the ATP of Casa Blanca with his brother Adolfo Gutierrez, Sergio’s coach, This time he lost 7/6 1/6 4/6 against the croatian Antonio Veic, after defeating Beto Martin in first round in three tight sets too. We stayed working with Pablo Martin in Marbella until Friday morning in the facilities of the Tennis club El Casco, Sports Management Headquarters, thanks to the agreement in between Passion Talent Group and them, that beneficiates the atheletes of both structures. From the we went to Madrid, where we took a flight to Milan to go to Vercelli, where Sergio plays in the future $15,000 + Hospitality.

I finish this interval of two months of not been an activce coach with this tournament (the las was the las week of January in the ATP of Zagreb with James Ward). They were two months that help me to think and work harder day a day, always with the goal that with time it will make some results and satisfactions. Soon i will talk about the sensations of this tournament.
