Pasión por “La Roja”, de estrella / Passionate about “La Roja”; One Star

Una nueva final compartida con todos vosotros, aunque en esta ocasión el protagonista es nuestra selección de fútbol “la Roja”. Es el color de mi camiseta y el de la de mis acompañantes. Ya podéis imaginar de qué final se trata y con que pasión la estamos viviendo gran parte de mi familia en casa de mi hermana mayor. Conscientes todos de lo que estamos viviendo, nada más y nada menos que la primera final de un Mundial de fútbol de la Armada Española.

Os tengo que confesar una vivencia futbolística de hace años. Toni Nadal me invitó a un programa deportivo de radio en directo muy conocido en España: “El Larguero”. Allí como invitados estaban Rafael Nadal y Luis Aragonés. El programa fue muy divertido pero la conversación deportiva posterior de vivencias, experiencias y opiniones que nos deleitó Luis Aragonés “El Sabio” fue excepcional. En aquel momento Luis era el entrenador del Mallorca y en breve se convirtió en seleccionador del combinado nacional español. Fue una intervención llena de sabiduría y de consejos. Luis nos expuso todo lo que creía que debería de hacer un seleccionador nacional bajo su punto de vista. Las explicaciones que dijo o más bien predijo (ya que luego las llevó todas a la práctica) eran arriesgadas, valientes, nada populares pero en base a sus motivos totalmente razonables y como pudimos comprobar acertadas.

Una vez que Luis fue seleccionador de “La Roja”, observé con detalle cada una de sus decisiones, ruedas de prensa, planteamientos, etc. La decepción me fue apoderando hasta llegar al pasado Mundial en Alemania donde España tuvo un mediocre resultado. No obstante mi decepción era mayor porque apenas vi que Luis fuese capaz de llevar a la práctica lo que aquella noche nos expuso.

Mi sorpresa y alegría vino tras el Mundial de 2006, cuando Luis sorprendentemente siguió dirigiendo a la Selección hasta lograr coronarse campeones de Europa. Todo lo que aquella noche nos contó con palabras que emanaban de su boca se fue convirtiendo en una secuencia de hechos reales. Lo que fue una decepción se fue convirtiendo en admiración hacia la persona de Luis.
Los jugadores que viajaban conmigo semana tras semana en aquella época y yo disfrutamos mucho e hicimos muchas tertulias de fútbol. Con ellos viví la Eurocopa que ganó España y, aunque muchas veces “soltábamos pedradas”, quizás yo el que más. Tengo que reconocer que a veces me cuesta que me lleven la contraria, poco a poco intento mejorarlo y seguro que demasiadas veces acabo convirtiendo una tertulia o una conversación cualquiera en un reforzamiento de lo que para mí son los principales principios deportivos, seguro que acabo convirtiéndome en un pesado.

Al igual que creo que la pasada Eurocopa mucha gente, entre ellos algunos de los jugadores con los que compartía las charlas y quienes me llevaban más la contraria, aprendieron de las actuaciones y forma de entender el deporte de Luis. He de reconocer también yo que en esta ocasión en el Mundial de Sudáfrica, y eso que he sido bastante reacio al cambio de entrenador y a su nueva forma de actuación, estoy aprendiendo de Vicente Del Bosque, pase lo que pase en esta gran final y como me decía Nacho coll hoy hablando de esta final, “siempre de lo que se dice a lo que de verdad es hay diferencia, y si no se vive no se puede saber nunca” totalmente cierto.

Mientras estoy en el minuto 54 de juego con el empate a cero inicial aún en el marcador. Quiero hacer, aunque sea bastante de pasada como ha hecho casi toda España, mención a la eliminación del equipo español de Copa Davis en la eliminatoria disputada este fin de semana en tierras (más que tierras eran casi moquetas) francesas. Lo cierto es que nos han barrido y que ni los jugadores, ni Costa, ni Roig, ni Arrese, ni los entrenadores de los respectivos jugadores encontraron la manera de frenar al zurdo francés Llodrá que estuvo imparable.

Esperemos que de la misma manera que cuando el conjunto español gana la Davis, el tenis no se entera de los beneficios económicos que recibe la Real Federación Española, pues tampoco en esta ocasión que no se ha ganado, tampoco al tenis se le recorte.

Hablando de Federaciones, sí quiero felicitar a las Federaciones territoriales de Madrid y de Andalucía por el buen trabajo que están haciendo a la hora de ayudar a jugadores que no se encuentran ni en la tecnificación de junior ni metidos a profesionales auto-suficientes sino en la etapa quizás más abandonada, difícil, más replanteada y más sacrificada que es la del semi o pre-profesionalismo.

Estamos en el minuto 90 de partido y sigue el empate a cero. Jugaremos la prórroga, cuántas cosas están en juego ya para definir finalmente al nuevo Campeón del Mundo: tensión, cansancio, miedo, suerte, errores arbitrales, etc.

Para relajarme os contaré la satisfacción y la alegría que siento con la nueva victoria de Javier Martí en un Future ATP en Rumania con partidos durísimos venciendo a sus rivales y a si mismo pero sobre todo forjándose como jugador y quemando etapas como debe ser. No obstante muchas veces sobre todo por las odiosas comparaciones parecía que estaba obligado a tener que saltárselas. Enhorabuena a Javi, Burri, Koki y a todo el equipo y familia en general, muchos ánimos. (Koki, te veo pronto en el Congreso Nacional de Tenis en Mallorca).

Y empieza la segunda parte de la prórroga y sigue este empate inicial, esto ya es de infarto, creo que os voy a dejar unos minutos y vuelvo cuando ya tengamos el nuevo campeón del mundo.

Cohetes, pitidos, mi familia saltando, Rafa en la televisión pintado con los colores de la bandera española y totalmente disfrazado con atuendos representativos de nuestro país, mensajes en el móvil… ¡España entera es una fiesta! ¡”La Roja” es CAMPEONA DEL MUNDO! Enhorabuena a todos los que durante estos años han construido y contribuido a forjar este equipo de campeones, ¡felicidades jugadores! ¡habéis hecho Historia! y como dijo Aragones en la Eurocopa y ha dicho Del Bosque en el mundial “todo se lo debemos a estos grandes jugadores” Gracias!

Once again I am sharing another important event with all of you. This time the main character is the Spanish football team known as “la Roja”. Red is the colour of my shirt and the one of my relatives. I guess you can imagine what are we talking about and how lively we are experiencing this moment at my older sister’s house. We are all aware of what we are enjoying at the moment: it is the “Armada’s” first World Cup Final.

I will take the opportunity to tell you an experience related to football that I had a few years ago. Toni Nadal invited me to a well known radio sports program called “El Larguero”. Rafael Nadal and Luis Aragonés were the remarkable guests. The program was very funny. Luis Aragonés “The Wise” pleased us with a wonderful conversation full of life experiences and opinions. By that time Luis was the Mallorca football team coach and soon he began working with the National Spanish team. His speech was wise and advisory. Luis explained everything that the Spain’s coach should do in his opinion. The explanations he gave, or more exactly forecasted (he put those into practice later on), were perilous, brave, unpopular, reasonable and certain as we confirmed sometime later.

Once Luis became “La Roja’s” coach, I analysed in detail his decisions, press conferences, proposals, etc. I was very upset all the way to the 2006 World Cup in Germany in which Spain had an average result. Nevertheless my disappointment was even bigger because I did not see what Luis said to us that night and was supposed to put into practice.

My surprise and happiness came after the 2006 World Cup. Luis remained coaching the National squad and managed to win the 2008 Eurocup. Everything that Luis said that night became true facts. At the beginning it was disappointment and later regards and respect.

By that time, the players that were travelling with me and I, we enjoyed a lot and we shared our opinion talking about football. I lived with them the Eurocup won by Spain. Meanwhile we often said things without course of reasoning; perhaps it was me the one who talked the most without any sense. I must recognize that sometimes I find hard to accept other people’s reason; however little by little I try to improve and I am sure that in a future I will use a conversation at random to consolidate my main sports principles. I guess I will end up being pestilent.

Many players learnt from the way Luis understands a sport. I used to chat with these players and sometimes they thought the opposite and we did not agree at all. I must recognize that, this time, I am learning from Vicente Del Bosque, no matter the final result of this match is. I have always been reluctant to the coach changing and his new way of working.

Meanwhile, the match is still 0 – 0 and we are going through the minute 54. I would like to mention very briefly as they have done all over the country, the Davis Cup team defeat this week in France (sort of synthetic Astroturf tennis courts). The truth is that we have been trashed by the French squad. The players and their coaches, Costa, Roig, Arrese… they did not find the way to stop the French leftie Llodrá. He played very well.

I hope that the same way tennis does not see the economical benefits the Federation receives when Spain wins the Davis Cup; this time I hope tennis does not find any cuttings now that we have lost.

Now that we are talking about Federations, I want to congratulate the Madrid and Andalusian Federations. They have doing a very good job dealing with players that are wishing to reach the professional world. They are not self-sufficient and they are part of the most difficult, abandoned, discussed and sacrificed which is the semi-professional stage.

Minute 90 and the score is 0-0. We will play the extra time. There are many things in risk before defining the new World Cup champion: tension, tiredness, fear, luck, umpiring mistakes, etc.

In order to relax myself a bit I will tell you that I feel very happy and satisfied with Javier Martí’s new victory. A year ago, Javi and I worked together for a few months fighting at a ATP Future in Romania. He had to deal with tough matches and strong opponents. He also had to beat himself but also building a good player and getting on in leaps and bounds as it has to be done. However, many times you must skip or avoid boundaries due to some horrible comparisons. Congratulations to Javi, Burri, Koki and to his team and family in general. This is the extra-time, second half and still 0-0. This is nerve-breaking! I am going to leave you for a few minutes until we discover the champion...

A few minutes later… fireworks, people blowing the horn, my family screaming and bouncing, Rafa on TV painted with the Spanish flag colours and completely disguised with a scarf and a T-Shirt; text messages... Spain is a fiesta! We are all celebrating! “La Roja” has become the World Champion! Congratulations to those who have helped to build this fantastic team. Congratulations to the players! You are part of our History!
