ATP World Tour, Federer & Nadal. (español-ingles)

Esta semana ha sido, tenísticamente hablando, muy completa para mí y los jugadores con los que trabajo o he trabajado. Y la traca final, el partido de ayer por la tarde que enfrentó a Nadal contra Federer. Insuperable, todo un festival.
La ATP World Tour debe de estar muy agradecida a todos los jugadores que componen este circuito y que semana tras semana se desplazan de un sitio para otro en busca de valiosos puntos que les permitan escalar. Y qué orgullosos se deben sentir los jugadores de que dos jugadorazos como Federer y Nadal les representen y hagan de sus duelos todo un espectáculo mundial.
Cada vez que se ha disputado uno de estos históricos duelos Federer vs Nadal, y ya van 21, me acuerdo del primero y único que no fue en una final (17) ni en semifinales (3) y de la conversación vía mail que tuve con Rafa: él en Miami y yo en Mallorca, la noche antes de disputarse el partido…
Federer ya era alguien intocable en el año 2004 y más aquella temporada. A Miami llegaba invicto, aun no había perdido ningún partido. Por otro lado Rafael, que por aquellas fechas tenía aun 17 añitos, ya había ganado a algún top ten e incluso llegado a la final de un ATP, el de Aucland. Pero para los expertos aun le faltaba mucho por aprender y madurar antes de poder ganar a todo un número uno.
Pero como siempre él no lo veía así sino que creía ciegamente en sus posibilidades. Eso sin perder para nada la realidad, humildad y respeto que siempre le ha caracterizado. Con el tiempo me he dado cuenta de que su tío y entrenador Toni Nadal también lo pensaba o al ver que su sobrino confiaba tanto en ello también tenía fe. No era para menos ya que Rafael o mejor dicho ellos dos no dejaban de sorprender y romper estadísticas.
“Colombo, Federer te poques opcions amb jo.... hauria de jugar molt be es tio per gonyarme cosa q no crec pq darrerament esta una mica atrapat es tio.......
jugare central segur preparat pq alomillor el televisen i q sapigues q quant guanyi me tirare en terra pq no te vengui denou.....”
“ Colombo, Federer tiene pocas opciones conmigo....tendría que jugar muy bien el tío para ganarme, cosa que no creo porque últimamente está un poco atrapado el tío..... jugaré central seguro prepárate porque a lo mejor lo televisan y que sepas que cuando gane me tiraré al suelo para que no te venga de nuevo....”
Estas eran sus palabras en Mallorquín en el mail del día anterior, aún no sé, se lo tengo que preguntar un día, si me vacilaba o si es el juego mental que él hace para confiar ciegamente hasta el último peloteo que puede ganar a cualquiera y en cualquier situación. El resultado del partido fue 63 63 para Rafael, jugando rápido, atrevido y sin ningún temor. Por otro lado Federer estaba cabizbajo sin acabar de entender lo que se le venía encima.
Precisamente hace años le pregunté después de ganar la final del 2005 del Masters de Madrid, en pista dura en aquella ocasión, contra Ljubicic con quien empezó perdiendo 36 26 y acabó ganando 76 en el quinto set: “Rafa, ¿qué pensabas al acabar los dos primeros sets, en los que te estaban barriendo de la pista a saquetazos?” su respuesta fue contundente “Colombo yo veía que aquel partido se podía ganar”
En el 2005, un año más tarde, también en Miami vino su segunda confrontación con el Suizo (venció Federer en 5 sets) y esta vez sí que ya fue un espectáculo seguido por mucha gente. Era la final y un precedente de los duelos que marcarían una de las mejores épocas del tenis mundial y ojalá por mucho tiempo. Gracias a los dos por ayudar a crecer a la ATP World Tour.
La jornada del Domingo arrancaba con buenas noticias: a las 12 del medio día en Varna, Bulgaria, saltaba a la pista el joven Javier Martí para disputar su segunda final de un Future ATP y cómo no, para convertirla en su primera victoria final en un Future y de forma contundente. Victoria sobre el Rumano Cruciat 62 61. Enhorabuena para el Former Player Passion Talent Group Javier Martí que actualmente trabaja con “Burri” en la Fede de Madrid, Felicidades “Burri” por tu trabajo y el de tu equipo. Mencionar también a su familia, en especial a su padre, jugador, entrenador, director deportivo y además lo más difícil, padre de un jugador con mucho potencial, un abrazo grande.
Un poquito antes con menos fortuna saltaba a la pista también para disputar una final, su segunda en lo que va de año y sexta de su carrera (el año pasado venció en dos de ellas) de un Future ATP, en esta ocasión en Lleida, el también joven y Former Player Passion Talent Group Andoni Vivanco. Perdió con su compatriota Iñigo Cervantes 46 57. Felicidades Andoni a ti, a tu equipo y tu familia.
Mientras, Pablo Martín , al igual que Nacho Coll, Institucional y Former Players Passion Talent Group se encontraban esta semana en Lleida y en Newscatle respectivamente. Han realizado una brillante actuación llegando ambos a semifinales, superando buenos partidos y adversidades.
Además Nacho Coll, que trabaja en el Real Club Tenis Barcelona a las ordenes de Carlos Gómez, venció junto con su compañero también del tenis Barcelona Gerad Granollers en la modalidad de dobles, sumando el sexto Future ATP de dobles que ganan este año cada uno de ellos. ¡¡¡Felicidades!!!
Ya para acabar contarles que estuve en Lleida un día viendo jugar a Pablo Martín. Un bonito club en el que hace más de diez años que mayo tras mayo visito, y la verdad me trae muy buenos recuerdos. En él, en la sala de la televisión he visto ganar a Rafa el Master 1000 de Roma varias veces pero en especial la de Coria de 5 h 14 minutos, o la de Federer que remonto Rafa varias bolas de partido. Ni Nacho Coll ni yo dábamos crédito de lo que era capaz de hacer nuestro amigo y compañero de entrenos. O la visita sorpresa y comida que hicimos con la Familia Toribio de Jaen, que aman el tenis y disfrutan de la compañía todo el grupo Colombo. También recuerdo que allí el año pasado tuve una conversación muy larga con Agustín Boje y fue allí donde decidimos hacer cada uno su camino después de casi tres años de mucho trabajo conjuntamente. Afortunadamente los dos seguimos con la misma ilusión y hacia la misma dirección, superando los muchos escollos que hay en este camino que quién sabe qué deparará.

This week has been busy for me and for the players with whom I work or I worked. And the most exciting was the match between Nadal and Federer yesterday afternoon. It was a great festival.
The ATP World Tour should be very grateful to all the players that make up this circuit and every week they move from one place to another for getting valuable points that allow them to reach to the top. And I know that the players are proud of the two great players like Federer and Nadal, because they represent them and their matches are a duel world spectacle.
Every time it has played one of these historic duels between Federer and Nadal (they played 21), I remember the first and the only one that it was not in a final (17) neither in semifinals (3) and also the conversation via email I had with Rafa: he was in Miami and I was in Mallorca, the night before playing the game.
Federer was already untouchable player in 2004. He arrived unbeaten to Miami, because he had not lost any match. Furthermore, Rafael who was 17 years old at that time had already won some top ten and he even reached an ATP final in Auckland. But for experts in this sport, he had still to learn and mature more before he can win the number one.
But as always he did not see it like this, because Rafael believed in his possibilities, but without losing any reality, humility and respect that has always characterized him. And I realized over the time that his uncle and coach, Toni Nadal, also thought about that or he was confident of Rafa’s faith. It was not the least one could do, because Rafael or both of them surprised us and break statistics.

These were his words in Majorcan in the email the day before, but I still do not know, I have to ask him one day, if he teased me or it is the mental game that he does for trusting implicitly until the last knock-about that he can win to anyone and in any situation. The result of the match was 63 63 for Rafael, playing fast, strong and without fear. On the other hand, Federer could not understand what happened to him.
For years, I just asked Rafa after winning the final in 2005 of Madrid Masters on the court at that time, against Ljubicic with whom started losing 36 26 and he finally won 76 in the fifth set: "Rafa, what were you thinking when you finished the first two sets in which you were swept away of the court through the service?” His reply was forceful: “Colombo, I saw that I could win this match”.
In 2005, a year later, he also played his second confrontation against the Swiss (he won Federer in five sets) in Miami and this time was already a show followed by many people. It was the final and a previous duel that would mark one of the best times of tennis world and I hope it would be for a long time. We started Sunday’s day with good news: at midday in Varna (Bulgaria), Javier Martí played his second final of an ATP Future and he won it forcefully.
The Romanian, Cruciat, won 62 61. Congratulations for the Former Player Passion Talent Group, Javier Martí, who is currently working with "Burri" in the Federation of Madrid. A little less fortunate was the Former Player Passion Talent Group, Andoni Vivanco. He played a final, his second of this year and the sixth of his career (last year won two of them) of a Future ATP, in Lleida. He lost against his compatriot Iñigo Cervantes 46 57. Meanwhile, Pablo Martín and Nacho Coll, Institutional and Former Players Passion Talent Group were in Lleida (Catalonia) and in Newscatle this week. They have done a brilliant performance reaching to the semifinals and they overcome good matches and some adversities.
In addition Nacho Coll, who works at the Real Club Tenis Barcelona under the orders of Carlos Gómez, won with his tennis partner, Gerard Granollers, in doubles and it is the sixth ATP Future doubles that they won this year. Congratulations!
Finally, I want to tell you that I was in Lleida (Catalonia) watching how was playing Pablo Martín. It is a nice club which I visit May after May during ten years and it brings me good memories. I saw win Rafa in Master 1000 of Rome several times in the TV room of this club, but particularly the one of Coria (5 hours 14 minutes) or the one of Federer in which Rafa overcome in several match points. Neither Nacho Coll not I could not believe what he was capable of doing our friend and partner of trainings.
I also remember the surprise visit and the lunch that we made with the family Toribio of Jaen (Spain), who love tennis and enjoy the company around the Colombo group.
Last year at the same place, I also had a long talk with Agustín Boje and it was there when we decided to make our own way after nearly three years of working together. Fortunately, we continue with the same enthusiasm and the same direction and we overcome the many pitfalls that exist in this way and who knows what fate has in store for us.
